In early July 2016, the Beer Institute announced a new initiative meant to encourage transparency in craft brewing. In this completely voluntary program, participating brewers will be encouraged to print full ingredients and nutrition facts for their beers on labels or secondary packaging.

Brewers who choose to join the Beer Institute in this measure will list information including calories, fat content, and alcohol by volume on their products. They will also share a complete list of ingredients and a best-by date or similar information on age and freshness.

These new measures will allow craft beer lovers to make informed choices about their beer selection and consumption in years to come. This information is likely to be especially helpful for those who struggle with food allergies or who like to keep an eye on their calorie intake
